Run by the Landscape Institute in association with the Homes and Communities Agency, Future Vision is designed to promote sustainable communities.
Entries are sometimes simple and sometimes bold, but they’re all designed to make
our villages, towns and cities better places to live, contributing to the development
of thriving communities that will stand the test of time.
Last year's winning entries can be seen on our Winners 2009 page. Read
our 2008 Winners'
Stories to find out more about what it’s like to win a Future Vision award.
What is a sustainable community?
Whether it's a city, town or village, a sustainable community is a place where people
want to live, work, play and invest in. It has good quality homes, local shops,
things to do and opportunities for young people to get a good education.
A sustainable place is one:
- where leaders manage the area well and local people have a say
- that is environmentally friendly
- with good transport links
- with good public services that everyone can use
- with a strong local culture and lots to do
- that has a thriving local economy
- with good quality buildings and public spaces
- that is fair for everyone
If you're passionate about improving services in your local community, an advocate
for environmental issues, a supporter of cultural diversity, or you simply want
to kick-start your career within the sustainable communities sector, then enter this year's awards.
